The numbers tell the story: women have outperformed men in formal educational settings quite a while ago. In 2021, women earned 59% of all bachelor’s degrees, 63% of all master’s degrees and 57% of all doctorates in the United States. But soon after their graduation, women lose their advantage. In the first career step, for every 100 men only 81 women are promoted. Up the corporate ladder women lose even more representation, going down to 29% at the senior VP and C-Suite level. The same pattern can be found in Europe. In the Roundtable session we will explore why these gender gaps in the workplace exist and discuss, next to the systemic issues and biases, also what actions and strategies women can pursue themselves.
